TLDR: The Great British Baking Show Pitcher is the Maxwell & Williams White Basics 320ml Milk Jug (Amazon - UK).

What The Bakers Use

(Amazon - UK)

When ever the bakers are required to make a dip, sauce, pour-over, or creme of something, they serve it to the judges in the Maxwell & Williams White Basics 320ml Milk Jug (Amazon - UK). Simply put this is a super clean looking all white 1/2 pint (320 ml) pitcher.

It comes from Maxwell and Williams White Basics Line. This is a very minimalistic and super clean line of all white porcelain dinnerware.

Being porcelain it is fairly robust and hard (hard to scratch, brittle if you drop it) and will hold up to wear quite well. It is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe and reasonably priced.

The White Basics line is designed to have clean lines and a very simple aesthetic. Why? Basically they say that this line can stand on its own or easily compliment other dinnerware with fancy patterns and designs. I'd agree. Seeing it in the tent it holds its own when sitting next to nearly anything without being obtrusive.

Why'd they go Maxwell and Williams?

Well honestly - I've already answered that in the Ramekins post. Maxwell and Williams has a nice long heritage, makes good wares, and is part of the KitchenCraft family.

On a side note, I have great suspicions that all of the dinnerware used to serve the judges the technical challenges is from the Maxwell Williams White Basics Line. I know for a fact that the Ramekins come from this line, as I blogged about previously.

For those of you keen on getting your hands on this pitcher or the white basics in general you've got 2 easy options. If you're in the UK (oh hi there!) you can easily find this at big box stores locally. Additionally Amazon (UK store is solid!) has quite the selection as well. In the US - Belk (they still... exist?) carries them too!

That said, what to do with the 3rd part of this blog post? Well, lets look at some other fun pitchers because my kitchen is currently lacking one and I'm sure there are some fun options!

The Only Other Options

Calamityware Creamer and Sugar Set
(Not Available On Amazon)
Be sure to get a close look at this!

Time has passed since I thought "Some fun options must exist!" - I was wrong. There are two.

Looking at the options across the board they're all actually pretty boring. Most creamer pitchers are metal and used for steaming milk. There are some other stoneware / porcelain options that are not as nice looking as the Maxwell and Williams Option, and gravy boats are just... hideous?

But the two fun options save the day!

First is the Le Creuset Stoneware Cream and Sugar 2 piece set (Amazon - Not on Amazon UK). This is a 2 piece stoneware set with a tiny creamer pitcher and a matching sugar bowl. I like it because the sugar bowl is modeled after their iconic Le Creuset Cast Iron Enamel Dutch Ovens (Amazon - UK). Its a fun touch.

The second option is simply amazing. Calamityware makes porcelain tableware with incredible designs on it. A few years ago I received mugs from the 'things could be worse' line as a gift. When I need an emotional pick me up, or to thoroughly delight my guests they always deliver. They're such great fun.

And as luck would have it, Calamityware makes a Creamer and Sugar Set in their 'things could be worse' line. Delightful! If you're looking for something over the top fun - this is the way to go! They're a little bit pricy, but again, you get what you pay for and their wares have been well worth it in my opinion.

So if you're looking for a very sleek and non-obtrusive pitcher, the Maxwell & Williams White Basics 320ml Milk Jug (Amazon - UK) is probably your best bet. If you're looking to add a splash of color the Le Creuset Stoneware Cream and Sugar 2 piece set (Amazon - Not on Amazon UK) and comes in Red, Yellow, Blue and White. And last, but far from least, the Calamityware Creamer and Sugar Set is just the bees knees if you're looking for a fun touch.
