Great British Baking Show Double Spatula

At some point in time you're going to think to yourself, 'I sure want every little bit of this in my bake!' When that day comes you're going to want a spatula. Trust me, using your fingers is not going to give you the same result - don't ask me how I know.

Basically the Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Spatula (Amazon Link) has a full sized silicone spatula on one end and a smaller spreader on the other. The full sized spatula can be removed and used as a scraper as well for getting dough out of sticky situations. This leaves the smaller end - the spreader - setup to reach to the bottom of jars or to use while spreading ... well what ever needs spreading on your bakes.

With the two in one functionality the Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Spatula (Amazon Link) really is a tool of convenience. However, the two in one functionality, and really nice silicone, may be the end of the convenience. Because the handle is wood, it needs to be hand washed. So after making a gloriously delicious mess you're going to be cleaning up by hand. Depending on the batter, licking it clean is not out of the question, but still - after that it still needs to be hand washed.

If you're a fan of this blog (hello there & welcome back! It's nice to see you again.) you may recognize the name Mason Cash. Its because they make The Great British Baking Show's iconic mixing bowls I featured a few weeks ago.

Mason Cash primarily makes ceramics, and they make incredible products when it comes to bake-ware. The Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Spatula (Amazon Link) is part of Mason Cash's expansion into other kitchen ware and gadgets. You can see the full range of their utensils on their website.

Most of their utensils look to be pretty ordinary and not really too much to write home about. However, the Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Spatula (Amazon Link) is a break from that pattern. It looks pretty awesome, is really functional, and is fairly, but not totally, unique.

At the time of writing - it seems like somethings are starting to come back into stock in the baking world in the wake of Corona Times. However, the Innovative Kitchen Spatula is not one of them on Mason Cash's website. There they list for £8.50 which is ... well roughly $8.50. And if you order from there you're going to need to get it shipped to the US. What to do!?

Well Amazon has them in stock, but they are currently shipping from the UK and it jacks the price up to $15.69. Which honestly, is kind of annoying!

However, Crate and Barrel has them in stock, and they're $8.50! No markup! And if that is not awesome enough, your local Crate and Barrel may have them in stock - mine did! That means you can look it over, prod the spatula to your heart's content, and take it home today! While you're there they also have an exclusive slate blue Kitchenaid Artisan® Mixer! - It looks great.

If you're not sold on the double spatula just yet and are looking for other options I've got some suggestions.

First off my favorite spatula is completely made of silicon so that you can wash it in the dishwasher and it is crazy durable, just stiff enough to work wonderfully, and was free! It came with a set of whisks which are no longer produced so - great sorrow. It is quite similar to these spatulas which annoyingly (unless you want a full set) only come in sets of 3 or 4 spatulas.

"How plebian," you state with dismay! "Those are not double ended!"

Fair enough! Orblue makes a pretty nice double ended spatula which you can pick up on Amazon, or at Walmart. There are very similar spatulas in other colors made by other brands which appear to be Orblue knock offs floating around Amazon and the internet at large. I'm not sure how much I'd trust the quality of them as they're labeled "butter cream scoop" and "cake cookie baking tool"... Sometimes I wish Amazon had quality control.

All this to say if you're looking for The Great British Baking Show double spatula pick up the Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Spatula (Amazon Link). If you're looking for a double ended spatula that you can thrash a bit more and toss in the dishwasher, the Orblue Flexible Dual-Sided Silicone Spatula is a decent choice.
